Work trip to Columbus, OH

My client asked me to travel to Columbus, OH and I really enjoyed my stay while I was there. The hotel was beyond my expectations (Marriott Columbus University), customer service was great and the room was the perfect size for working.

This is my shout-out video for the hotel for going up and beyond for my device streaming issue:

Here's a massage table setup video for tips when setting up in a hotel room:

It snowed the first two days I was there, so since this Texas girl isn't too accustomed to this type of weather, I stayed at the hotel the first two days in the city.

This is what I did when boredom struck:

I did manage to get out and mix some sightseeing and fun in after that and in between my work sessions.

I was also fortunate to get a full tour through Ohio State University's athletic training facility - Woody Hayes Athletic Center, which is Amazing!!!
Side-note: I love visiting college and professional training facilities to see the setup and what services they provide their athletes.

So overall, my week long work trip to Columbus was a success, and I look forward to going back and seeing more of the city next time.

Here is a snippet of my Columbus experience:

I've been "Squeezed"

I have a new addiction and its a healthy one....Juicing! I've been wanting to get into the juicing lifestyle, but I currently don't have a juicer and I felt the actual process and clean-up would take up too much time in my day.  Well now I have no more excuses because I found a company that can resolve all of that.....SQUEEZED!

Squeezed has been a great addition in my journey for a healthier way of living, and I must say I Love This Company!  If you go to their Facebook page you can see I'm not the only satified consumer.
Lets start with how easy and fast the ordering process was. I made my order mid-afternoon and it was at my doorstep the next morning at 6am. Not only was the order a speedy one, when I opened my package all my juices were in a Squeezed bag with ice packs inside and each of my bottles were personalized with my name on them!  I'm a sucker for little things and attention for detail so I enjoyed knowing that these bottles were mine; well almost mine, my daughter took two bottles for herself lol.

Then when I picked a bottle to have for breakfast,  my thought was, this is what I've been missing in my life....it was so good! I've only been drinking Squeezed three days, but I can already tell the difference its made in my body. I have felt more energized and I'm enjoying the effects and can't wait to see how I'm going to feel/look a month from now.

If you enjoy, or are interested in juicing, you should definitely try this product out...especially if you have a busy or hectic schedule.

Reflexology Quick Fix

If your in need for your hands & feet to get worked on, this is the place for you!  Let me paint the experience....The front desk attendant will lead you to the back, soothing music is playing in the background and the lighting and feel of the room is low & relaxing. The attendant will set your belongings on the counter next to your seat, no need to get undressed, just wear comfortable loose clothing.  You will take off your shoes, socks and if your wearing sweats or pants, you'll lift them above your knees, put your feet in a bowl of warm water & lay back in a fairly large chair that reclines.  Also a small dry towel will be placed over your eyes to help you further relax.

I requested for my hands to get the majority of the attention since that was my main problem area.  The therapist worked on my shoulders, arms, forearms & hands first, then finished with my feet. An hour session was only $40!  My hands and feet were on cloud 9 when I was done, definitely a fantastic experience for a great price and I will be making a visit to this place on a more regular basis. :)

The "MassageNinja" is a bit of a Fascia-nista

The body continues to always amaze me and "fascia" is the core of my amazement and my obsession.  Every time I use this term almost always the next thing asked is, "what is fascia?"  Well fascia is defined as a layer of fibrous tissue below the skin that covers underlying tissues and separates different layers of tissue.  It is a structure of connective tissue that surrounds and encloses muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels and nerves, binding some structures together, while permitting others to slide smoothly over each other.
layer of fascia wrapped around a muscle

Now this definition probably still has most of you confused, but to give you an idea of what fascia looks like, it resembles that of tight-knit stockings and if you have ever eaten a piece of fried chicken, the silky layer behind the fried skin is exactly what fascia is and that tissue covers the entire body.

Fascia is a 3-dimensional web connecting every structure in your entire body from head to toe without interruption, and acts as a shock absorber to the body.  It is a continuous unit and in simple terms is made of 3 main things:  Elastin - stretchy material; Collagen - extremely tough/inflexible material exhibiting a huge amount of tensile strength; and Matrix - a gel-like substance.

Fascia is designed to protect you and keep your internal structures properly positioned.  If we took away all of "you" except your fascia, "you" would still maintain your shape.  Fascia has the natural tendency to become solidified, shortened and thickened when the body goes through a trauma, an inflammatory process, or exhibits poor posture over time either stress or injury induced.  Over time these trauma/injury induced fascial lines of tension will pull the body into themselves, and out of its natural, crucial, 3-dimensional  alignment, as fascial lines of tension are stronger than healthy tissue.

For example, the implications on one's body for sport are great especially over a long period of time.  The brutality of football, the repetitive nature of a pitching arm or even jumping up for rebounds while enduring contact from an opposing player, leaves an athletes body a wreck.  Rest alone will not heal the body completely.  If scar adhesions have formed, imbalances in the fascial system or flexibility has been compromised so fascia needs to be addressed.
#90 Mario Williams, BODY WORx client, going in for a sack

Traditional treatment methods such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound and ice, although helpful to the body, won't directly address the fascial system.  This is the key to allowing the body to endure throughout time as it helps create our structure.  Recognize that fascia plays a vital roile in the healing process, as well as performance.

Thomas Myers, the author of "Anatomy Trains," through dissection, shows that there are lines both structural - existing in the tissue and functional - involved with movement, throughout the whole body.  "Anatomy Trains" is extremely informative in understanding fascia and its functions and really delves into this different way of studying anatomy.

Anatomy Trains maps the "anatomy of connection"

I'll touch more on various fascia topics, tips, etc. in the upcoming blog entries.  Hope this post was helpful and informative.

Your audience is here waiting...

After working on a client in the Bellaire area, I stumbled upon a cute store called Magpies Gifts. As I was quickly browsing the isles looking at all the unique items the store has, I came across a sign with this quote:

"SOMEWHERE SOMEONE IS LOOKING FOR EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER"

I immediately thought about how relevant this quote is in one's personal and/or business outlook and approach. At this stage in my life, I'm continually asking myself..."Should I expand & to what location?" "How will I achieve this goal & where will I find good quality staff?" "Where's funding going to come from?" and in this short moment I recognized that I've been holding back and putting up unnecessary road blocks for myself.

All these issues are valid and need to be researched & addressed, but instead of coming up with solutions to these questions, I instead have become more apprehensive to act because I am afraid of failure.

This is the first time I've admitted this to myself, but I'm glad this moment happened. It's funny how a short quote like this re-gave me confidence to know that there IS a need for the services my company provides and that my audience is here and is waiting.... so I guess the next step is to boldly put myself out there and see what happens!
